Tokyo-based Vertex Standard Co. Ltd provides advanced technologies in 2-way radio communication solutions.

After paying 12.0 billion Yen, Motorola will have a total ownership stake of 78 percent of Vertex Standard.

Tokogiken Co., Ltd., a Japanese company controlled by Vertex Standard’s president and CEO Jun Hasegawa would retain a 20 percent stake of Vertex Standard.

Motorola plans to form a joint venture with Tokogiken to develop and sell Vertex Standard, brand products besides developing some of the Motorola branded products.

Jun Hasegawa, president and CEO of Vertex Standard said, “We are extremely pleased to team with Motorola, a global technology leader that has been a leading provider and pioneer in 2-way radio communication solutions.”

“With Motorola, Vertex Standard will be stronger and better positioned to deliver new and innovative 2-way radio solutions for professionals and consumers.”

The 2-way radio solutions market is set to increase and Motorola hopes to leverage Vertex Standards experience in land, amateur, marine and airband (Avionics) segments to develop a comprehensive suite of products. This would offer Motorola new business opportunities. The joint venture opens up Vertex Standard’s engineering talent pool to Motorola.

Further, Vertex Standard’s solutions are complementary to Motorola’s products, offering added efficiency to Motorola’s Government and Public Safety business.

Vertex Standard Co. Ltd. will retain its name but will function as a subsidiary of Motorola with its headquarters located in Tokyo.
